About me
I joined UWE as a post-graduate student to study for my PhD and began teaching here in 1997. I have taught on a wide variety of modules based around the 19th through 21st-century British and American novel and short story. I am currently module leader for 'Gothic Literature' and teach a gender and sexuality section on 'Literature in the World'
My research is broadly centred on representations of old age. My publications include The Older Woman in Recent Fiction (2004) and 'Old Age and the Gothic' in The Bloomsbury Handbook to Ageing in Contemporary Literature and Film (2023). Most recently, as the chapter title suggests, I have been writing about the Gothic genre's imagining of female and male old age.
I welcome expressions of interest from students who wish to embark on a PhD in the areas of ageing, gender, the Gothic and contemporary fiction.
